Volvo Pavilion
In 2019, we realized the Volvo Pavilion at the Interior Design Show at Vancouver Convention Centre, Canada. For this show and due to the cooperation with Volvo we designed the most eco-friendly booth we have ever built. We saved almost 4 tons of carbon-dioxide compared to MDF. The booth itself reached an incredible 99,27 % recyclability. As a result almost every single piece will return into the circular economy or be reused.
The ground was pure smooth concrete. A green decision as the absence of a carpet took another item off our list of materials with questionable recyclability. This decision led to a few structural challenges due to a lack of friction to hold down the horizontal forces. We solved this problem with a new slice-and-mounting system (“Interlocks”), allowing us to create internal abutments inside the structure. The necessary weight was created using play sand; a material that was reused once the project had finished.
The booth we recreated for the 2019 and 2020 Interior Design Show in Vancouver and Toronto, Canada.
